Theo Waddington Fine Art Ltd, London, 1996 | Softcover, unpaginated | 21 x 26 cm

Published to accompany the exhibition Recent Paintings held 16 October - 16 November 1996 at Theo Waddington Fine Art, this slim, understated catalogue presents a focused selection of Tony Bevan’s work from the mid-1990s. Known for his raw, expressive mark-making and architectural motifs, Bevan’s paintings explore tension, structure and psychological space through stark linear compositions.

The works reproduced here - including the Corridor series - evoke claustrophobic interiors and fragmented perspectives, rendered in a restricted palette of black, red and ochre. Bevan’s distinctive visual language sits somewhere between figuration and abstraction, combining gestural intensity with a disciplined, almost schematic approach to space.

Minimally designed, the publication allows the works to speak with clarity and force. Plates are presented with generous white space, reinforcing the contemplative and slightly austere tone of the artist’s practice. Thirteen colour plates, including one foldout, followed by  a list of selected exhibitions.

A concise but compelling document of a key moment in Bevan’s career.

Very good condition: Slight toning and faint surface marks to rear cover. Internally clean, crisp and tightly bound.
