Tom Gates, 1966 | Softcover, 180pp + Index | 22.5 x 27.5 cm.
Inscribed and signed by the author and by the illustrator.
A scarce, characterful cookbook from Marie Louise Snellings [1912–1994] — one of the first women to earn a law degree from Tulane University, later a successful Louisiana politician, and, above all, a legendary cooking queen of the Deep South.
Marie Louise shares her culinary secrets with warmth and humour, just the way she would tell you if you were standing with her in the kitchen. Many of the recipes originated in Louisiana, where the Author was from, but there is also a good selection of Acadian, Cajun, Creole and other cosmopolitan dishes.
The text is paired with witty illustrations by Mary Nell Averette, printed on thick, textured paper — blank on the reverse and designed to be removable for framing.
An unusual and treasured piece of Southern culinary history.
Good+ vintage condition: Mild wear/rubbing to covers, including minor scratches and various little marks. Internally clean and complete, with no loose or missing pages. Pages a little age-tanned, mainly along the edges.
