A scarce compendium of external architectural details drawn from the legendary Architects’ Working Details series (1953–1971) - a fifteen-volume reference set that shaped generations of post-war British architecture. This edition compiles nearly 200 first-class examples of façades, roofs and structural detailing - each paired with a full-page b&w photograph and its corresponding technical drawing.
The selection reads like a roll call of twentieth-century architecture: Powell & Moya, J.H. van den Broek and J.B. Bakema, Mies van der Rohe, Arne Jacobsen, Walter Gropius, Ove Arup, Walter Segal, Alvar Aalto and many, many more. Though rooted in post-war Britain, the scope is international - spanning Europe, North America and Japan.
Far from a dry manual, it’s a window into the precision and optimism of mid-century construction - where craftsmanship met modernism head-on. A must for architects, conservationists and anyone drawn to the graphic beauty of the working drawing.
Very good- condition: Clean, unmarked interior. Mild surface and edge wear to covers, including light fading and a corner crease to rear cover. Minor wear at spine ends. Binding tight.
