Pratt Contemporary Art [Sevenoaks, 1989]. Softcover, 52pp. 20.5 x 25 cm.
A scarce catalogue of Barbro Backstrom's works from 1968-88 published on the occasion of her first one-person exhibition in Great Britain, at Artsite Gallery, Bath (1. April - 7. May 1989).
Amongst Backstrom's most compelling works are those portraying the human form through the medium of wire mesh of the type more often used as a base structure for plaster sculptures. The sense of fragility and play of light and shadow is of central importance to those pieces and imbues them with great presence. The catalogue features photographs of some of the mesh works as well as various cast bronze pieces.
Introduction by Bo Nilsson. 20 pages of plates, blank to reverse.
A must for anyone interested in modern Scandinavian sculpture.
Very good condition: Unread copy, internally pristine - clean, bright and tightly bound. Minimal surface and edge wear to stiff card covers, including slight fading along the spine.
